May 4, 2010 - Arizona’s latest immigration law and the release of a fairly detailed proposal for comprehensive immigration reform by Democratic senators created national momentum for immigration reform. Human Rights advocates need to respond to this moment to support immigration laws that respect human rights. The Midwest Coalition for Human Rights (MCHR) urges you to take action by contacting elected representatives at the state, local, and national level to ask for their support on this critical issue.

Hundreds of thousands of children are employed as farmworkers in the United States, often working 10 or more hours a day. They are often exposed to dangerous pesticides, experience high rates of injury, and suffer fatalities at more than four times the rate of other working youth. Their long hours contribute to alarming drop-out rates. Government statistics show that one-third never finish high school.
The 2010 Minnesota State Fair runs Thursday, August 26 - Monday, September 6. The booth is open 9am-9pm all 12 days of the Fair. Shifts are divided into mornings (9am- 1pm), afternoons (1pm-5pm) and evenings (5pm- 9pm).
The Advocates for Human Rights will again bring the Immigration Fuels Our Nation campaign to the Minnesota State Fair. We need your help to make it happen! Volunteers are needed to staff the booth, answer questions, and act as ambassadors for The Advocates for Human Rights. This is a great opportunity to promote respect for human rights for everyone in Minnesota!
National Religious Campaign Against Torture - The saga continues for the Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) report that provided evidence of unethical and illegal medical experiments by the CIA on U.S.-held detainees. The Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP) declined to investigate the issue, and instead referred it to the CIA. Thus the agency that may have violated the laws and standards protecting individuals from unethical medical research was asked to investigate itself. Your efforts are needed now to ensure that these allegations are appropriately investigated.
